High School Roundup: Northside goes 2-2 in tournament

KATHLEEN, Ga. -- Carly Smart had four aces, eight kills, four blocks and 30 assists to lead Northside to a split of four matches in the Veterans playday.

Northside defeated Northside-Warner Robins and Warner Robins High, but dropped matches to Veterans and Rockdale County.

columbus takes 5th place in lovett block party

ATLANTA -- Columbus battled for a 5th place finish out of 24 teams in the Lovett Block Party.

The Lady Blue Devils went 4-2 overall in the tournament.Highlights from the tournament included defeating Lovett in straight games in Gold Bracket play.

If Columbus had won their next match against North Cobb, they would have been in the final four.

Mary Catherine Smith pitched three games for Columbus in the Shaw Invitational and went 2-1, beating Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 7-3 and Brookstone 2-1.

harris county goes 2-1 in invitational

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Kayla Cotton had a big game for Harris County against Woodland, going 1-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs at the plate. That was the first game of three for the team at the Cherokee Invitational.

Harris County then dropped a close game to Gordon Lee that took eight innings to decide.

Aaron Dansby's 4-4 plate performance, double and two runs helped Harris County defeat Hillgrove 4-3 in the nightcap.Saturday at Woodstock

NORTHSIDE DROPS TWO GAMES AT INVITATIONAL

The Lady Patriots' struggled for hits as they lost games to Starr's Mill and Effingham County in the Shaw Invitational.

Cora Beth Hudgins took the loss in 14-4 game against Starr's Mill.

Hudgins gave up 11 hits but only one of the 14 runs was an earned run. Northside was plagued with seven errors.

The game was shortened by the mercy rule.Against Effingham County, the Lady Patriots couldn't get anything going in a 6-0 loss. They were limited to three hits in both games.

brookstone wins two out of three

Brookstone defeated LFO and Troup County before losing to Columbus in the Shaw Invitational.

The Lady Cougars finished the Shaw Invitational with a 4-1 record and are now 15-2 on the season.
