Police say a young woman awoke to a stranger sexually battering her in her bedroom after she excused herself from a small party Saturday, hosted in her Bruce Avenue residence.

Rashad Thomas, 23, faced charges of sexual battery during a Monday morning Recorder's Court hearing. He has also been charged with contempt of court and no state driver's license, though those charges will be heard 9 a.m., Thursday.

An officer told the court police arrived at the dying party early Saturday morning. The victim told them that a few hours earlier she went to her bedroom to lay down, leaving the small gathering in the hands of other hosts. When she awoke, Thomas allegedly had his hands down her pants.

Neither Thomas nor the victim seemed intoxicated when officers arrived. The victim told police she did not know Thomas. Several attendees who lingered at the scene told police they saw him at the party, but did not recognize him.

Cielinski set Thomas' bond at $1,500. The bond for his two other charges will be set Thursday.
