Clutching her child and attempting to escape, police say a 20-year-old mother was dragged into an Ashland Avenue residence Tuesday during a domestic violence dispute.

Xavier Igus, 19, faced charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct and third degree cruelty during a Thursday morning Recorders Court hearing.

With blood dripping from her left ear, the victim told police Tuesday she arrived at Igus' 900 block Ashland Avenue home a few hours earlier with their 9-month-old child.

Shortly after midnight, Igus allegedly began to act aggressively, so the woman reached for her phone and attempted to call for a ride. Immediately after, police said, Igus began cursing at the victim and punching her repeatedly in the head. He reportedly choked her for some time — leaving red marks and bruises around her neck — before she was able to grab her child and attempt to flee.

As she reached the threshold, Igus grabbed her by her hair and dragged her back into the house, where he continued choking her.

Igus' uncle and another witness both verified Igus' behavior, police said. The victim told the court the two were not arguing about anything specific prior to the alleged assault.

Judge Michael Cielinski set Igus' bond at $13,500, and set conditions on how close Igus could be to the victim. His case will be forwarded to Muscogee County Superior Court.
