Columbus State downs Georgia Regents 3-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Columbus State could have been excused for losing its first few volleyball games. After all, the school had not fielded a team since 1981.

Fast forward to today, and the Lady Cougars won their fifth-straight match. That puts the team at 5-0.

Thanks to the 3-0 defeat of Georgia Regents, the team is also now 1-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Columbus State defeated Georgia Regents 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 in Augusta. The Lady Cougars kept the pressure on and kept a lead for the majority of the three sets.

Erika Gelzinyte led the offensive attack for Columbus State. She had 10 kills and an ace.

Katie Poole added seven kills, two aces and seven digs, and Andrea Skipor and Kierston Smith each contributed five kills. Smith also had twelve assists and one ace.

Megan Scharnett led the defensive stats with 24 digs.

The Lady Cougars will travel and take on Georgia College and West Georgia today.
