Columbus State volleyball falls to Montevallo in five sets

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- After dropping the first two sets, Columbus State managed to force a fifth against Montevallo on Tuesday night. But the Lady Cougars couldn't complete the rally and lost 3-2.

Montevallo won the match 25-17, 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 15-10.

CSU had more kills 61-50, but Montevallo led in aces 14-8 and blocks 12-10.

Katie Poole led CSU with 20 kills, while Erika Gelzinyte had 19.

CSU and Montevallo are both 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.

CSU, which has lost two straight, after starting the season 6-0, play in the Saint Leo (Fla.,) Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The first match is against South Dakota School of Mines at 10 a.m. Friday.
