Piles of a suspicious white powder found in a parking lot and on downtown Columbus sidewalks prompted a worker in the Hardaway Building to call authorities before 8 Thursday morning.
Columbus Fire & Emergency Medical Services and a HAZMAT investigated and determined it was Talcum powder and gave the all clear about 8:45 a.m.
"There is no threat," said Columbus Fire and EMS Sgt. Ed Whitaker.
Cecil Blanchard reported to work at the Hardaway Building at the corner of 10th Street and Broadway, noticed the powder in a rear parking lot near Front Avenue and next the RiverCenter parking deck. He called 911.
The piles were not only in the Hardaway Building parking lot, which is adjacent to the downtown CSU campus, but on the sidewalk along 10th Street and on the Broadway sidewalk leading to Fountain City Coffee.
