A Columbus furniture shop was destroyed after a fire ignited in the building off Jacqueline Drive late Thursday, officials said.

Firefighters found the building in flames when they arrived about 9 p.m., said Battalion Chief Rob Hammock of the Columbus Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

It took about 20 firefighters at least 15 minutes to knock down the blaze. By the time the fire was under control, the building was almost leveled.

"It's a total loss," Hammock said.

A fire investigator was on the scene trying to determine how the fire started.

"There was no one in there," the battalion chief said. "No was hurt. We are not sure how it started yet."

The fire remains under investigation.
