Spencer 39, Jordan 7: Davis, Robins power Greenwave

Special to the Ledger-EnquirerSeptember 19, 2013

Kameron Blackshear's interception for Spencer sparked the defense and led the Greenwave to a 39-7 victory over Jordan Thursday night at Kinnett Stadium in a 5-AA region contest.

Jordan scored on their first possession of the game, taking the opening kickoff and scoring on William Huff's keeper to make it 7-0. It was to be the last score of the night for the Red Jackets.

Spencer took the ensuing kickoff and, with Damarkus Robins leading the way, tied the score at 7-7. The Red Jackets then took the next kickoff and, on the third offensive play, Blackshear made his leaping interception of a Huff pass. It was to be the first of four Jordan turnovers in the game.

The Greenwave's Tarvaraska Davis found Richard Jones open for a 32-yard touchdown and made the game 14-7, a lead the Greenwave would never relinquish. That was a six-play drive after Blackshear's interception.

Spencer made it 21-7 at halftime as Davis found Robins open and he turned a short pass into a nifty 49-yard touchdown.

Spencer had two more opportunities to score late in the half but had two touchdowns called back due to penalties. The score stood at 21-7 at intermission.

Robins was again the sparkplug in the third quarter as he had a run of 20 yards and a pass reception for 17 and that highlighted a 7-play drive to make it 27-7 with teammate Jayson Sims getting the final six yards. Robins finished with two touchdowns on three catches for 96 yards and 114 yards rushing and a touchdown.

That's how it stood at the end of three as again Spencer had a touchdown called back on a penalty. Jordan linebacker Andre Harper then made an interception to set up a Jordan scoring chance, but four plays netted a minus-7 yards and the Spencer defense held.
