Suspect charged in Third Avenue shooting

A Columbus man was charged Friday in the Sept. 1 shooting of a man on Third Avenue, police said.

James Koger, 22, faces one count each of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in the shooting of a man at 2406 Third Ave. The victim was shot in the right leg with a 9 mm pistol and his femur shattered.

After an 8 a.m. hearing today in Recorder's Court, Koger was ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail on bonds totaling $55,000.

Koger was arrested at 1:30 a.m. Friday at the Coolidge Avenue and Seventh Street. The shooting victim picked Koger out of a photographic lineup.

When police were called to the shooting, officers found three shell casings from a 9 mm pistol at the scene.
