Newell's Old Boys climbed to the top of the Argentine Apertura table on Friday after securing a 1-0 victory over Racing.
Both teams found scoring chances hard to come by for the majority of the 90 minutes, but Newell's collected the only goal of the match five minutes from time when Maxi Rodriguez found the back of the net with a well-placed strike.
Racing, which has yet to win a match this season, pressed for an equalizer but the Newell's backline held firm to hang on to all three points.
The result sees Newell's move up to 17 points, while Racing has collected just two points from its first eight matches to remain rooted to the foot of the table.
Also on Friday, Jose Fernandez and Jonathan Ramis each found the back of the net as Godoy Cruz rolled to a 2-0 result against nine-man Tigre.
On Saturday in Argentina, Ezequiel Cerutti and Carlos Bueno traded goals two minutes apart as Olimpo and Belgrano played to a 1-1 draw, while Jonatan Gomez and Sebastian Abreu swapped goals as Rosario Central and Arsenal battled to a 1-1 stalemate.
Sunday's action saw Ignacio Piatti and Juan Cavallaro score second-half goals in a 2-0 San Lorenzo victory over Colon, while Carlos Carbonero scored the lone goal 10 minutes from time as River Plate topped All Boys by a 1-0 score.
Rounding out Sunday's slate, Quilmes and Lanus battled to a scoreless draw, as did Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors.
Monday's match saw Velez Sarsfield score two first-half goals en route to a comfortable 4-1 thrashing of Atletico Rafaela.
