The American Cancer Society (ACS) is recruiting participants for its third Cancer Prevention Study.
The local chapter is looking for 400 participants. Right now, there are 365 participants.
One must be between the ages of 30-65 and have never had cancer (except basal or squamous cell skin cancer) and must commit to the study for 20-30 years.
Before one says 20 or 30 years, Kanika Whipple, the CPS3 event manager for the American Cancer Society says participants have to take a survey every two or three years. Nationally, there are about 250,000 participants. The ACS needs to have at least 300,000 participants.
Enrollment will be taken Oct. 1-5 at the J.P. Thayer YMCA, the D.A. Turner YMCA and the Front Porch of the South.
Call 800-227-2345 to fill out the initial questionnaire and set up an enrollment time.
At the enrollment center, participants will be asked to give a blood sample and be willing to have a waist measurement taken.
