CSU takes 12-shot lead in invitational

Columbus State shot a pair of under-par rounds on Monday and opened a 12-shot lead in the Aflac/Cougar Invitational.

The Cougars shot a 3-under 281 and a 282 on the par-71 Country Club of Columbus course for a two-round total of 5-under 563.

West Florida is second at 575 (283-292) with Lee at 576 (288-288).

The Cougars' strong team performance was led by a trio of golfers who in the top four on the individual scoreboard.

Yannick Gumowski is third at 3-under 139 (69-70), while Cates Culpepper and Robert Mize -- both former Brookstone team and individual state champions -- shot 2-under 140s and are tied for fourth.

Culpepper shot a 71-69, while Mize went 69-71.

Florida Southern's Tim Crouch leads at 6-under 136 (70-66), followed by Lander's Robert Prior at 138 (71-67).

CSU's Bryan Lichimo is tied for 21st at 144 (72-72). The Cougars didn't count either of James Clayton's scores. He is tied for 71st at 156 (81-75).

Georgia College (294-285) and Lander (294-285) are tied for fourth at 579. Two shots behind in sixth is Florida Southern (299-282-581).

CSU finished second in this tournament last season.

The third and final round tees off this morning at the Country Club of Columbus.
