Marion County 21, Schley County 6: Johnny Royal carries Eagles to win

ELLAVILLE, Ga. -- Johnny Royal had 23 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown in Marion County's 21-6 win over Schley County.

Schley took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter, but a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Eckert to Trae Swanson gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.

After the score by Royal in the third quarter, Eckert punched one in from six yards out in the fourth for the game's final score.

Eckert was 5-8 for 62 yards and one touchdown. He also had 57 yards on the ground. Lorenzo Smothers led the defense with 12 tackles and an 80-yard interception return that sealed the victory. Brandon Green came in with nine tackles.

The Eagles have won their last five meetings with Schley County now, and they are undefeated at 5-0 on the season, 2-0 in Region 4-A.
