Alexander 27, Shaw 7: Alexander too much for Shaw

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Mikell Lands-Davis of Alexander was too much for Shaw Friday night.

The junior had 237 all-purpose yards and two scores as the host Cougars pulled out a 27-7 Becoming victory at Cougar Stadium.

After stopping Shaw on fourth down during the opening drive, the Cougars marched 77 yards and kicked a 19-yard field goal for the 3-0 advantage in the first quarter.

Alexander added two scores in the second quarter for the 13-0 lead. Baylor Whitfield scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper and Andrew Chandler added a 40-yard field goal.

Shaw scored its only points of the game after a 16-play drive ended with Desmond Gomillia went off the left tackle for the 3-yard scoring run.

Alexander led 13-7 at halftime.

The Cougars iced the game with a 58-yard touchdown reception by Lands-Davis in the third quarter and a 10-yard run by Lands-Davis in the fourth.

Shaw, which is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 5-AAAA, hosts Sandy Creek next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Kinnett.
