Man, 81, killed in collision on Highway 80 in Phenix City

A Friday collision on U.S. Highway 80 has left an 81-year-old man dead and a passenger injured in Phenix City, authorities said Saturday.

The dead was identified as Joe Daniels, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. He was pronounced dead at 3:11 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center, formerly The Medical Center, after the 1 p.m. accident.

Sumbry said the car the victim was driving was T-boned at U.S. 431. A passenger in the vehicle also was injured in the collision.

The accident remains under investigation by the Phenix City Police Department.
