Eufaula police shoot, kill Columbus man, 26

A 26-year-old Columbus man died of a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon shortly after he was shot by police at 431 South Wrecker Service in Eufaula, Ala., authorities said.

Cameron Massey was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m. CDT at Medical Center Barbour, said Barbour County Coroner Chip Chapman. An autopsy will be performed today at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett, public information officer for the Alabama Department of Public Safety, said the ABI is investigating a Eufaula police-involved shooting at the request of Police Capt. Steve Watkins of the Eufaula Police Department. The shooting occurred about 4:40 p.m.

No details will be released in the ongoing investigation. The findings in the shooting will be turned over to the district attorney for review once the investigation is complete.

Chapman couldn’t specify where the man was shot until an autopsy is completed. The man had a Eufaula address but was living in Columbus. The Eufaula Police Department said no information would be released on the incident until today.
