ALBANY, Ga. -- Erika Gelzinyte had back-to-back kills in the fifth set to power Columbus State's volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Albany State Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup.
It was CSU's third consecutive five-game match. CSU improves to 13-7 and Albany State falls to 9-8.
CSU handily took care of the Lady Rams 25-21 in the first set. ASU came out with a fast 6-1 start in the second set until the Lady Cougars were able to tie it up at 15-15, later able to seal it at 25-22. Albany State took the third set 25-22 and won the fourth set 25-23.
Tied 13-13 in the final set, freshman outside hitter Gelzinyte had back-to-back kills to give Columbus State the match.
Gelzinyte finished the night as CSU's leader with 17 kills, 15 digs, four service aces and three blocks, all team-highs. Mary McCarty had a career-high 15 kills and posted her first double-double with 10 digs. Caytlin Merritt had 12 digs and Katie Poole added 12.
The Lady Cougars will be home in the Lumpkin Center to host Georgia College Friday at 7 p.m. and GRU Augusta on Saturday at 2 p.m.
