High school roundup: Brookstone to host first-round softball matchup

The postseason brackets for the Class A private- and public-school state softball tournaments were released Wednesday.

Brookstone, the No. 5 seed in the private school tournament, will host No. 12 Calvary Day for a doubleheader Wednesday. The if-needed game would be Oct. 24.

In the public-school tournament, Marion County is the No. 16 seed and will travel to No. 1 GMC. Schley County, the No. 6 seed, will host No. 11 Glascock County.

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. -- Northside was limited to five hits in two games as Effingham County swept the Lady Patriots 6-0, 13-1 in the opening round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Northside finished its season at 15-18.

Madison Wilson had three of Northside's four hits in the opener. Cora Beth Hudgins had the other. Sidney Mathis had the Lady Patriots' lone hit in Game 2.Wednesday at Effingham
