Final 18 or So

Posted on October 23, 2013

       Hi, Snakes fans...

Just returned from the L-E after proofreading most of my preview section. In case you missed it, part 1 ran this morning, a story on SPHL expansion featuring an interview with commissioner Jim Combs.

Tomorrow you'll see the centerpiece story and illustration, along with player mugs and bios and the schedule. A quick thanks to our chief photog Mike Haskey for, as usual, taking an extremely rough idea and making it awesome. I appreciate you, Mike!

Friday completes the package with a story on the three goalies.

Well, it came down to several tough choices for Jerome, but here is the opening day roster:

Goalies: Jesse Chenard and Andrew Loewen

Forwards: Will Aide, Tory Allan, Daniel Amesbury, Jordan Braid, Jordan Draper, Dan Bremner, Levi Lind, Matt Gingera, Ian McNulty and Seth Ronsberg.

Defensemen: Chris Bailer, Jason Gray, Kyle Johnson, Kevin Kessler, Tom Maldonado and Andy Willigar.

Travis Bosch is still in the goalie battle royale with Jesse and Andrew. The rookies will get more playing time in the coming weeks before Jerome makes a decision.

The final cuts were forward Jordan Zalba and defenseman Mike Switzer. Hate it for these guys as they really battled hard in camp.

Thanks again to Pedro Slayton for his help in camp. I always laugh about it later, once I get to know them, but these guys all look the same to me in camp. Give me a number on their backs, a position and a conversation or two and I'm fine! Thanks so much, Pedro!

Coming later tonight, an on-line only part of the preview section. You'll see the theme of the section pretty quickly. More along the lines of this year's theme in this space later only.

         Stay tuned.
