Seven-year-old from West Point killed in Chambers County car crash

A 7-year-old boy was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in Chambers County.

According to the Alabama Highway Patrol, the accident that killed Jaylen Johnson of West Point, Ga., happened at 9 a.m.

The vehicle in which he was riding traveled off the roadway and overturned.

Jaylen was not restrained at the time of the crash.

The driver, who was the child's mother, Lasonia Johnson, 38, also of West Point, Ga., was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The crash occurred on Alabama 50, two miles east of LaFayette, Ala.

The case is under investigation, and there is no further information at this time.
