Rush hour traffic was diverted from the northbound lanes of Veterans Parkway after five vehicles collided Thursday afternoon.

At least two people were transported to the hospital after the crash between 13th and 14th streets. Columbus Police Lt. Tony Danford said none of the injuries appeared life threatening.

The crash was triggered when Gerald Railsback lost control of his vehicle that he was traveling southbound on Veterans. Railsback told police that he spilled a cup of coffee prior to the crash. His SUV ended up in the northbound lane.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues in the crash, which occurred about 5:30 p.m.

The five vehicles included an SUV, van and a motorcycle.

While police cleared the wreckage, northbound traffic on Veterans was diverted to Fifth Avenue for nearly an hour until the one-block stretch of roadway reopened at 6:25 p.m.

The wreck is still under investigation.
