Glenwood 49, Crenshaw 34: Strong ground game gives Gators victory

Special to the Ledger-EnquirerNovember 1, 2013

Luverne, Ala. -- Glenwood got four rushing touchdowns from Undriel Copeland and three from Dylan Denny as the Gators finished their 2013 season on a winning note by sending Crenshaw Academy to their fifth straight loss, 49-34, Friday night at Cougar Stadium.

Glenwood continued to run the "Wildcat" offense and kept passing to the minimum as rushing yardage was able to be piled up by the Denny-Copeland combo.

Both Denny and Copeland went over 200 yards for the game. Copeland was the top producer with 277 yards on 16 carries for his four TD's, including runs of 83, 34, 15 and 1 yard.

Denny was not far behind with 206 yards on 14 carries for his first 200-yard rushing game of the year and had TD runs of 52, 39 and 88 yards.

The first half was a see-saw affair and the Gators had a slim 2-point lead at intermission, 28-26. Copeland had his 83 and 34 yard TD's while Denny scored on a 52 and 39 yard run.

But the Cougars countered with a 66-yard TD pass from Colton Kelly to Dalton Weeks in the first, and Gavin McKenzie added two TD runs of his own of 59 and 10 yards and went over the 100-yard barrier in the first half.

However, the Gator defense made adjustments at halftime and Glenwood outscored Crenshaw, 14-0 to take command of the game.

The win upped Glenwood to 4-7 on the year while Crenshaw finished 2-8.
