Just over a minute later, the Cougars doubled their margin. After recovering a very short pooch kick not fielded cleanly by the Blue Devils, Alexander took just four plays to score. Lands-Davis scored the second of his three TD's in the opening frame from 14 yards out and it was 14-0 with 10:04 left in the first.
Columbus had a nice drive on its next possession to get its only score of the first half. The Blue Devils took eight plays to go 69 yards. QB Derrick James had runs of 15 and 32 yards in the drive and connected with James Traylor on a 25-yard pass play as well. James kept for the final one yard to get the score. Ryan Anderson's extra point cut the Cougar lead in half at 14-7 with 6:46 to play in the quarter.

The Cougars would pad their lead with two second-quarter scores -- the first coming on a nine-yard run by Tyler Tolbert on the third play of the second quarter. Jaquan Grier completed the first-half scoring for the visitors as he picked off a James pass and picked his way through blue jerseys for a 28-yard pick-6. Chandler's sixth extra-point of the half made it 42-7 at that point.
Alexander got an insurance score on its first drive of the second half, covering 47 yards after a failed onside kick attempt by Columbus. Tolbert carried on every play of the eight it took to reach the end zone, scoring from five yards away for a 49-7 lead.
Columbus used a couple of big fourth-quarter plays to cut into the margin before the game's end. James hit Essang Bassey on a screen pass that became a 67-yard touchdown play. He then found Cam Genung on the right sideline for a 66-yard scoring play to wrap up the scoring.
