Even as she stood in a wet field in a light drizzle of rain Friday afternoon, Carroll Pound excitedly talked about Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens.
"I expect it to be a beautiful, sunshiny day," said the race day director. "It's supposed to be 68-72 degrees. I can't ask for better weather."
And to answer one of the most asked questions about clothing: "Layer. Wear layers of clothing and that way as it gets warmer during the day, you can take things off and stay comfortable."
No ticket? Don't despair
The Guarantor Tent, Terrace Boxes and Stretch Patio Viewing Area are all sold out, but other boxes, including Top-of-the-Turn ($325 for six people) are still available at the gate.
Pound said there is a new hospitality tent for the Top-of-the-Turn.
"We hope people like that," she said. "It's a beautiful view. You can see the whole, entire track. You can see everything."
The most affordable tickets are $30 for the Infield, with $25 for parking at the gate.
New this year in the Infield is the College Corner, where students from area colleges and universities can congregate. They will have their own tailgate competition, bands and other activities.
"We hope that area will grow among the college students," Pound said. "We want to have a big collegiate following."
The Art of the Chase Arcade area near the Guarantor Tent has been renamed the Wells Fargo Race Arcade and will feature the silent auction. The former Art of the Chase Arcade has been moved to the Infield, which gives people in the Infield a chance to see what local and regional artists have to offer.
The Taste of the Chase in the Infield includes food by Country's Barbecue, Bitter Brick (a local coffee shop) and Planet Pop (homemade Popsicles). There will even be a psychic in the Infield, along with Jack Russell Terrier Races and the Carmike Kids' Corral.
"It looks full in the Infield," Pound said.
This year, the After the 'Chase Sale will be at the Columbus Museum, 1251 Wynnton Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. It's where all the items used in the Guarantor Tent, including tablecloths, napkins, centerpieces and pottery will be sold along with souvenirs like 2013 Steeplechase T-shirts and decorative items like potted plants and "some great stands made out of horseshoes."
