New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Unbeaten WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin successfully defended his belt against Curtis Stevens after the referee halted Saturday's bout after the eighth round.

Official Harvey Dock called an end to the fight following a eighth-round barrage from Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO) that Stevens survived but went to his corner dazed and bloodied from the champion's barrage.

Golovkin had previously sent Stevens (25-4) to the canvas with a right hook in the second round.

The victory was the 15th consecutive by knockout for the 31-year-old Golovkin, who was making his ninth defense of the title he won from Milton Nunez in August of 2010.
