Rhett Lashlee: Right tackle could be ‘a week-to-week deal’

In this file photo from the 2012 season, Patrick Miller (51) is seen blocking against LSU. He started the first five games last season at right tackle. He moved to left tackle this spring, but earlier this week, moved back to the right side.

AUBURN, Ala. — The starting right tackle spot was a two-way competition during fall camp. Patrick Miller emerged as the winner, beating out Avery Young.

But it may be up for grabs once again following Saturday’s game — or it might not.

“Pat got in there a little bit at the end,” offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said. “He was ready to go if we needed him, at any point in time. We feel good about both those guys.”

Miller started the first five games of the year, but was taken out of the lineup following still-undisclosed off-field issues. Young has taken over the last three games, and Lashlee noted the redshirt freshman has been “playing well.”

Lashlee didn’t say for certain who will be in the starting lineup this week versus Tennessee. But it’s not an issue Lashlee is sweating over, either.

“We feel perfectly fine with Pat in there,” he said. “At the same time, we’ve been playing pretty well with Avery in there. That could be a little bit of a week-to-week deal. I don’t see us changing a whole lot going forward.”
