Report: Chivalrous man gets smacked by 2-by-4

Chivalry preceded injury Wednesday after a 50-year-old Hemlock Drive resident tried to defend a woman from a man who was cursing and yelling at her, according to a Columbus Police report.

The 50-year-old victim initiated the confrontation after a man in his neighborhood began shouting obscenities at about 4 a.m. The slurs seemed to be aimed at the woman visiting the victim, according to the report.

After listening to the suspect yell profanity for some time, the victim walking toward the suspect. The man retaliated by grabbing a 2-by-4 board and whacking the victim across the face.

The victim suffered from abrasions and a large knot on the left side of his face.

Police are looking for suspect Ronnie Johnson in the case, though no description of the man was given. Anyone with additional information should contact Investigative Services at 706-653-3400.
