A Pike County woman was arrested Friday morning and charged with exploiting a disabled person, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Kathryn "Kit" Dawsey, 54, faces one count of exploiting a disabled adult, one count of theft by taking and two counts of theft by conversion, all felonies.

The GBI said Dawsey befriended the victim, a 91-year-old Buena Vista, Ga., man, and later convinced him to make her his power of attorney. She began utilizing the victim's money and property for her and her family's personal gain, the GBI said.

The bureau was contacted late July by the Marion County Sheriff's Office to investigate the allegations.

In September, Dawsey was served a court order restricting her from conducting financial transactions from the victim's account, but she continued to do so, the GBI said.

A search warrant of Dawsey's Pike County home on Purser Circle was executed Friday morning. Dawsey was at the residence at the time and taken into custody.

The investigation is still ongoing.
