Columbus State women's cross country heading to nationals after third place finish

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Columbus State women's cross country team earnhed a spot in the NCAA Championship after placing third in a field of 31 in the Southeast Regional Saturday.

The Lady Cougars' top runner was Renee Usher, who came in 13th with a 22:49.4. Moneque English came in 18th (23:01.7), Rayna Green finished in 21st (23:07.4), Caroline Rotich came in 28th (23:18.2) and Kaitlynn Howardfinished in 50th (23:59.0).

CSU will compete in the NCAA Championship Nov. 23 in Spokane, Wash. The Lady Cougars finished in 27th during last year's event.

The CSU men's team finished in fifth at the regional. Ryan McFall had the best finish for the Cougars at 10th place (31:49.8).

Jacob Dirkman finished in 13th (32:05.1), Cody Mallchok placed 36th (33:10.9), Ian Edwards came in 55th (33:44.0) and Stephen Bowers finished in 59th place (33:48.5).

The men's team finishes its season with four top-three finishes, a win and a share of the top spot at the Peach Belt Conference Champ[ionship.
