Fantasy in Lights begins tonight with a "Specialty Night"

Fantasy in Lights traditionally opens the holiday season at Callaway Gardens, but this year, specialty nights have been announced, said marketing director Rachel Crumbley.

The light display, which opened in 1992, uses more than 8 million lights for 15 scenes through the Gardens. Tickets for specialty nights are $8 for children 6-12 and $16 for everyone else (tax and service fees will be added at time of purchase). Crumbley said tickets must be purchased in advance; no same-day tickets will be sold.

Specialty nights begins today with University Spirit Night. Wear your favorite university gear. Crumbley said you do not have to have a degree from your favorite university. You may work there or have just walked across the campus once.

Saturday is Bicycle Night. Last year's Bicycle Night was so popular, that it was brought back. You must bring your own bikes and helmets. She recommends that cyclists have headlights or bike lights, which will be sold at the Gardens. There will be no bike and helmet rentals that night. Cars are not allowed.

Sunday is the March of Dimes Night Walk, which is the only time visitors are allowed to walk through Fantasy in Lights. This year marks the 21st Night Walk. Walk times are 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Cars are not allowed.

For the first time, Monday is Motorcycle Night. Callaway Gardens officials are still figuring out the best way to get the motorcyclists through Fantasy in Lights.

Tuesday is Golf Cart Night. Golf carts must have headlights, and, of course, they can be decorated for the holidays.

Wednesday is reserved for a private event.

Nov. 21 is Specialty Car Night. Crumbley says vehicles, including classic, antique and car clubs, are welcome.

There will be safety briefings for bicycle and motorcycle riders "before each time slot," Crumbley said.

The normal season begins Nov. 22 and Fantasy in Lights ends Dec. 30.
