Calhoun 42, Manchester 9: Manchester falls late after solid first half

CALHOUN, Ga. -- Manchester hung tough with Calhoun for the first half, battling to a 3-3 tie at the intermission.

But Calhoun hit a long pass early in the third quarter to open the floodgates on its way to a 42-9 victory in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Fields Chapman hit Chandler Curtis with a 59-yard touchdown pass to break the tie and give Calhoun a 10-3 lead.

Cole Jackson added a pair of short touchdown runs later in the third for a 24-3 lead.

Calhoun blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety, and Brandon Blaylock added a field goal in the fourth quarter for a 29-3 lead.

Curtis scored on a 59-yard run midway through the fourth quarter for a 35-3 lead.

Manchester's points came on a Darius Alford field goal late in the second quarter and a Marcus Copeland touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.

Calhoun will host either Greater Atlanta Christian in the second round.
