Columbus State 3, Francis Marion 2: CSU wins regular season finale

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Columbus State Lady Cougars volleyball team won a close five-set match against Francis Marion 3-2 Saturday. Francis Marion won the first set 25-22 and the fourth set 25-15, but after dropping the first set the Lady Cougars came back to win the second set 25-16.

CSU went on to win the third set 25-13 and the fifth set tiebreaker 15-12.

Katie Poole led the Lady Cougars with 19 kills. She also had an ace and 14 digs.

Erika Gelzinyte had 14 kills, one ace and 19 digs, Mary McCarty totaled 12 kills, an assist and three digs, Kierston Smith tallied three kills, 49 assists and 16 digs, and Taylor Ray had two assists and 21 digs.

The win means Columbus State finishes the regular season at 20-10 overall and 12-6 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Cougars enter the PBC tournament (hosted by Francis Marion) as a No. 4 seed and will play a quarterfinal match against No. 5 Montevallo Nov. 22 in Florence, S.C.
