Ward earns UD over Rodriguez to retain WBA belt

The Sports NetworkNovember 17, 2013

Andre Ward earned a unanimous decision over challenger Edwin Rodriguez on Saturday to retain his WBA world super middleweight title.

Ward (27-0) won in convincing fashion, earning scores of 118-106, 117-107 and 115-108 to defeat Rodriguez (24-1), who missed weight by two pounds at Friday's weigh-in, meaning the challenger was unable to claim Ward's title even if he had defeated the reigning champ.

Ward was fighting for the first time in 14 months due to right shoulder surgery.
