From staff reportsNovember 17, 2013

WINGATE, N.C. -- After making the second round of the NCAA Division II soccer tournament, the Columbus State Lady Cougars fell to Southeast region host Wingate.

The game was locked at a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, but Wingate won on penalty kicks 5-3.

Wingate scored the opening goal of the contest early on at the 5:25 mark. Wingate took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but at the 68:18 mark of the second half Nicole Corcione hit an unassisted equalizer.

Neither team could break the tie before the end of regulation, so the winner would have to be determined on penalties. CSU and Wingate both hit their first three PKs, but the Lady Cougars missed on their fourth shot. Wingate hit all five to advance to the next round.

CSU ends its season 15-6-1, with its final match being the team's first and only draw of the season.
