U.S. falls to Austria in friendly

Vienna, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc Janko scored the only goal of the match on Tuesday as Austria held on for a 1-0 victory over the United States in an international friendly at the Ernst Happel Stadium.

Coming off a lackluster scoreless draw against Scotland in a friendly on Friday, Jurgen Klinsmann's men came out with a bit more jump and appeared to score the opening goal off a corner kick inside the first 20 minutes.

Geoff Cameron's header from inside the box appeared to bounce over the goal line before Austrian goalkeeper Robert Almer reached back to push it out, but the goal was not given.

Austria responded by opening the scoring in the 33rd minute as defender Gyorgy Garics sent a low cross into the penalty area from the right wing that went through several U.S. defenders before arriving at the feet of Janko, who powered it past Tim Howard.

After the goal, the United States struggled to create many quality scoring chances and the home side was able to hold on for the victory.

The result sees the U.S. finish its 2013 schedule on a two-match winless run.
