AUBURN, Ala. After weeks of speculation, Ellis Johnson finally cleared the air about Justin Garretts status.
Auburns defensive coordinator confirmed Wednesday night that the junior linebacker would sit out the remainder of the season after having surgery on his broken right foot a few weeks ago.
I dont know how many weeks it has been now, Johnson said. He maybe could possibly get back for a bowl game, but its not worth taking a year from him. Hell get a redshirt year for this year and be back hopefully in the spring ready to roll.
The Tucker native has been injured for a vast majority of the season. Entering the fall as the starter at the Star, the Tigers hybrid linebacker/safety position, Garrett was expected to have a breakout year. But he missed the first two games of the year with a separate foot injury. Upon Garretts return, he found that Robenson Therezie had established himself as the starter at the Star spot.
With that, Garrett moved to linebacker, where he played against Mississippi State and LSU making two tackles in each contest before he went out with his latest foot injury, which will keep him out until spring practice next year.
