You need to know: Both teams are fortunate to still be alive. Carver needed three OTs and two missed PATs to outlast B.E.S.T. Meanwhile, SE Bulloch returned a punt for a go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds, but a whistle blew the play dead when the punt was muffed, according to ghsfdaily … With a win, Carver will be in the quarterfinal round for the eighth straight year. … Jefferson County lost to Buford 31-0 in the second round in 2011. … The Warriors' last second-round win came in 2009.

KENDRICK AT LOVETT

You need to know: The seven wins for Kendrick are the most since it won eight in 1995. … The last time Kendrick won a second-round playoff game was in 1991, when it beat Thomasville 50-19. Back then, there were only four rounds, so the win was also in the quarterfinals. The Cherokees went on to tie Lakeside-Atlanta for the state championship. … Lovett beat Manchester in the second round last year before losing to Lamar County in the quarterfinals. … Lovett, which is ranked No. 1, won its only state title in 1970.

HARRIS COUNTY AT CREEKSIDE

Where: Arrowhead Stadium, Fairburn, Ga.

Records: Harris County 9-2. Creekside 11-0.

You need to know: With a victory, Harris County would return to the state quarterfinals for the second straight season.
