Lady Cougars fall to Montevallo 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference tourney

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Columbus State Lady Cougars volleyball team (No. 4) was defeated by fifth-seed Montevallo 3-1 Friday in the Peach Belt Conference tournament hosted by Francis Marion.

CSU won the first set 25-23, but Montevallo won the next three sets 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 to pick up the win and advance in the tournament.

Katie Poole led the Lady Cougars with 14 kills. She also had two assists and 15 digs.

Erika Gelzinyte had nine kills, an assist, three aces and 12 digs, Mary McCarty tallied seven kills and seven digs, Kierston Smith totaled three kills, 29 assists and 19 digs and Taylor Ray had five assists and 27 digs.

The Lady Cougars closed out their inaugural season in Division II with a 20-11 record and tied for third place in the PBC.
