Update: Woman shot at Best Western on Macon Road dies

A 25-year-old East Point, Ga. woman shot Saturday at the Best Western on Macon Road has died.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Brittany Patrice Jenkins was pronounced dead by a Midtown Medical Center physician at 7:57 p.m. Saturday.

"The body will be sent to Atlanta for an autopsy," said Bryan.

According to the Columbus police report, the shooting in a motel room occurred between 6:17 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

The report says Jenkins was shot in the back with a pistol.

Police believe the shooting took place during an armed robbery.

This is the 21st Columbus homicide of 2013. The 20th was Nov. 9 when inmate Issac Kindred was killed in the Muscogee County Jail.

The 19th was on Nov. 8 when police found 27-year-old Terrell Screws shot to death. That shooting occurred on Winston Drive and a murder warrant for the arrest of Raymond Leon Richmond has been issued in that case.
