Columbus State 84, Voorhees College 80: Kenney Funderburk scores 25 points to pace Cougars to win

Kenney Funderburk scored 25 points to pace Columbus State to a an 84-80 win over Voorhees College Friday at the Lumpkin Center.

The Cougars took a 15-5 lead in the first six minutes, but Voorhees College, powered by 10-fo-20 shooting on 3-pointers, stormed back and led 37-35 at the half.

BJ Battle got things going in the second half. He scored eight straight points to put CSU up 45-42. The lead changed hands again when Courtney Warren hit two consecutive 3-pointers to give the Tigers a 70-65 lead with just over six minutes left.

The Cougars regained the lead 78-73 with a 6-0 run with 2:44 remaining.

Voorhees College could get no closer than two points the rest of way.

Jermaine Morgan recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Battle ended up with 15 points.

Alan Dantzler had 21 points for the Tigers. Warren ended up 5-for-6 from behind the arc and finished with 16 points.

Columbus State (2-1) hosts West Georgia today at 1 p.m. at the Lumpkin Center.
