Gunshot fired during robbery in Opelika, Ala.

A shot was fired Thursday afternoon after two robbers took money from the Waverly Parkway Convenience Store on Fitzpatrick Avenue, Opelika, Ala., police said.

The cashier one wasn’t injured in the holdup which occurred about 3:35 p.m.

Police said the men wearing masks entered the store and one was armed with a handgun. After demanding money, the robbers took money from the cashier and fled.

Outside the building, the robber with the gun fired a shot in the air, police said. They jumped into a dark colored SUV and headed north on Waverly Parkway.

The robbery remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the robbery should call the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services Division at 334-705-5220. Calls may also go to the Secret Witness Hotline at 334-745-8665.
