Phenix City police arrest three in counterfeit money probe

An ongoing investigation into counterfeit money has led to the arrest of two men and a woman as suspects, Phenix City Police said Friday in a statement. The suspects were identified as Johnquez Barnes, 21, Marquez Ellison, 26, and Azavria Hayes, 22. Barnes is charged with three counts of possession of a forged instrument and Ellison with two counts of possession of a forged instrument and forgery first degree. Hayes faces one count of possession of a forced instrument and forgery first degree.

Police said counterfeit money was seized after a search warrant was executed at 700 22nd Ave., the Central Highland Apartments where all three suspects live.

The cases remain under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division at the police department.
