Cottonmouths lose fifth straight

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The offensive woes continued for the Columbus Cottonmouths, who lost 3-1 to Knoxville on Saturday night.

It was the Snakes' fifth straight loss. In those five games, they have scored jut six goals.

Steve Mele scored the Snakes' lone goal Saturday at the 6:56 mark of the first period. It tied the game at 1.

Knoxville scored once in each the second and third periods for the win.

The Snakes are now 4-10-1 for nine points. They are ninth in the 10-team SPHL, one point ahead of Bloomington and seven points behind Knoxville.

Columbus plays at first-place Louisiana on Thursday.
