An officer was left with powder burns to his left hand and left forearm after a gun he picked up accidentally went off during a burglary investigation, according to a Columbus Police report.

Officer Kenneth Culverson, 26, was investigating a burglary at 2818 Eighth Street with three other officers at about 6:25 a.m. He picked up a .22 caliber revolver he saw on the kitchen counter, which promptly discharged a shot.

The powder left burns on the officer's left ring finger and left forearm. He was not transported for medical treatment.
