The United Way has a plan for people looking for affordable prescription drugs.

The organization is offering a new Coast2Coast Rx discount card that could provide up to 75 percent in savings when purchasing more than 60,000 brand name and generic drugs, the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley announced this week.

Under the program, United Way will receive a donation for each prescription filled. The card is accepted at major chains and many independent pharmacies, with more than 65 local pharmacies accepting it, according to a news release.

"As the cost of prescription drugs continue to climb, this new Rx card will offer persons the prospect to save on prescriptions as well as other health related expenditures," the news release said. "It is a resource that can increase health and financial stability for all of Georgia."

The card also offers discounts on dental, vision, hearing, veterinary services, diabetic equipment and supplies, lab and imaging services as well as discounts on most pet prescriptions.

To start receiving benefits, consumers can pick up cards at the United Way Chattahoochee Valley office, 1100 Fifth Ave., or by logging onto unitedwayofthecv.org.
