Phenix City police officer struck while directing traffic

A Phenix City police officer was struck by a vehicle Thursday while directing traffic from Central High Freshman Academy on Dobbs Drive, police said.

Martin Hines Sr., was working on a detail at Central High School when a vehicle operated by a student struck him about 3:15 p.m. He was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus where he was treated for a broken leg.

He was in satisfactory condition Friday at the hospital, an official said.

The investigation continues in the incident, police said.
