City to host MLK commemoration in January

The city will host a Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration Jan. 18 on the Plaza of the Government Center, the city announced today.

Starting at noon on Saturday, Jan. 18, community organizations and individuals who want to participate will process from four staging areas to the Plaza, where performances, inspirational speakers and free food and beverages will be offered.

The festival, called “The Dream Lives,” will be hosted by the Mayor’s Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity. Its stated goal is to “renew the spirit of the MLK legacy to meet the challenges of today.”

Organizations, schools, companies and individuals can join in the processional by registering online at or by call the city Parks and Recreation Department at 706-225-4658.
