Some rush-hour traffic was blocked from entering the westbound J.R. Allen Parkway on ramp off Veterans Parkway Tuesday after a logging truck overturned, Columbus police said.

The driver for the LaFayette, Ala., timber truck wasn’t injured in the accident which occurred just before 2 p.m. at Veterans Parkway and Double Churches Road.

The Veterans Parkway exit off J.R. Allen Parkway and the westbound on ramp were blocked for three hours while heavy equipment was called to the scene to upright the overturned truck and haul away the wreckage. The spilled logs were loaded onto the same trailer and another truck hauled away the lumber at about 5 p.m.

Police said the driver of the truck was southbound on Veterans Parkway when he attempted to make a left turn westbound onto the J.R. Allen Parkway at the on ramp near Double Churches Road. The load apparently shifted on the truck, causing it to overturn on the passenger’s side in the grass.

The crash damaged the truck’s cab but the trailer was used after a wrecker flipped the cab and trailer upright.

A loader attached to a separate trailer picked up the scattered logs and reloaded the trailer.

Police said no charges are pending in the accident. No public property was damaged other than the grass in the right-of-way.
