Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Atkins registered a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Georgia State Panthers topped the Georgia Southern Eagles, 73-61, in non-conference action at GSU Sports Arena.
Also having a strong game on offense for the Panthers (5-6) was Ryan Harrow as he dropped in 22 points, followed by R.J. Hunter with 16 points for a squad that won for the third time in the last four outings. Despite shooting just 2- of-9 from the floor, Devonta White was still a major contributor with 10 assists for the hosts.
The Eagles (6-7) were led by Brian Holmes with 19 points and seven assists, followed by Jelani Hewitt with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tre Bussey contributed 13 points, but shot only 5-of-14 from the floor.
Atkins converted five of his six field goal attempts in the first half, finishing the period with 14 points as the Panthers turned 52.0 percent accuracy from the floor into a 36-29 advantage at the break.
In the second half Georgia State dipped to 46.2 percent from the field and made just 9-of-15 at the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes, but the team turned the ball over just three times, allowing them to cruise to the 12- point win.
The Panthers suffered only nine miscues on the night, resulting in just 12 points for Georgia Southern.
