Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Warren poured in a career-high 32 points to help lift the NC State Wolfpack to a 90-79 win over the East Carolina Pirates in non-conference play from PNC Arena.
Warren, the ACC's leading scorer entering the weekend, shot 14-of-23 from the floor and also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Jordan Vandenberg added a career-high 18 points, Anthony Barber scored 16, and Ralston Turner finished with 11 off the bench to help the Wolfpack (9-2) earn their seventh straight victory.
Akeem Richmond led the way with 23 points for the Pirates (10-3), who entered the day with wins in six of their last seven games, including four straight. Caleb White was next in line with 14 points, followed by Prince Williams with 12, and Paris Campbell with 11.
ECU jumped out to a nine-point lead just over six minutes into the contest. However, the Wolfpack weathered the early storm and rallied to take a 45-38 halftime lead behind a 54.1-percent shooting effort from the floor.
The Pirates made six 3-pointers in the second stanza, including one from Richmond in the corner to cut the deficit to 82-77 with two and a half minutes remaining in regulation. However, NCSU answered right back with a 7-0 spurt to fend off the Pirates, who came into the day hoping to secure their best start in school history.
NCSU shot 58.2 percent for the game to improve to 20-1 in the all-time series between these cross-state foes. The Pirates are now 0-57 as the visitors against ACC schools.
